President Lee Myung-bak met with Mongolian Prime Minister Sanjaagiin Bayar Thursday for discussions on expanding practical bilateral cooperation in the energy and infrastructure construction sectors, the presidential office said.

``Lee asked Bayar to support South Korean companies seeking to participate in the development of Mongolian coal mines,'' Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release. ``Lee also noted that a number of South Korean companies wish to participate in Mongolia's infrastructure expansion projects, including the construction of a cogeneration plant in Ulan Bator.''

Bayar held talks with Prime Minister Han Seung-soo shortly after his arrival in Seoul Wednesday.

At his meeting with Korean business leaders in Seoul Thursday, the Mongolian premier asked South Korean firms to support his country's economic development projects.

``The role of entrepreneurs is central in expanding economic cooperation between South Korea and Mongolia,'' Bayar said during the meeting hosted by the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
