30-Somethings Main Customers of Brothels

A Ministry of Justice report showed Sunday that 30-something male office workers with bachelor's degrees are the main attendees of ``John School,'' an education program for the male clients of prostitution. A first-time offender is offered John School as an alternative to criminal prosecution.
The report, based on a survey on 1,295 men who had attended the school in 2006, showed that 50 percent were in their 30s, 23 percent in their 20s, and 23 percent in their 40s.
Sixty percent of them were college graduates, followed by 28 percent of high school graduates and 7.5 percent with graduate school diplomas. More than 34 percent were office workers and 26 percent were engaged in sales.
They bought sex an average of 16 times. Those who bought sex for less than 10 times accounted for about 60 percent, but the average soared because of habitual offenders, 2.8 percent of whom said they did so more than 100 times.
Most bought sex at massage parlors and said they went to those places with their friends or colleagues.
