Old Man Commits Suicide After Attacking Wife

An 82 year-old man attacked his wife, nearly beating her to death, before killing himself by jumping out of a 13-story-apartment Sunday morning.

The man, Moon, hit 67-year-old Baek with a blunt instrument before committing suicide, Hwasun Police said. The wife is in critical condition at a hospital in Gwangju.

According to police, the offender showed no sign of anxiety when his children and grandchildren came to visit over Chuseok, or Korean Thanksgiving Day.

The police assume the case to be a murder suicide attempt.

Baek was suffering the after effects of a stroke three years ago and had been living with her son, but visited her husband during the holiday. Moon's acquaintances testified that the old man often felt lonely and had said he did not want to burden his children.
