Truth Commission Chief Visits Chile to Sign MOU

The government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chile to promote mutual understanding in reconciliation of the past and looking toward the future.
Ahn Byung-ook, president of South Korea's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, signed the memorandum in Santiago Monday with Chilean Foreign Minister Alejandro Foxley on keeping records of and reconciling with the past.
Both South Korea and Chile have been ruled by brutal military dictatorships.
Ahn met the relatives of missing Chileans, looked around prisons, and spoke to members of the Chilean reconciliation body on the future of truth commission studies and measures. He also held talks with former Chilean President Patricio Aylwin Azocar to forge ties between the two countries.
Ahn will visit Peru and Argentina through Monday.
