Daegu Removes Street Vendors
The country's third-largest city of Daegu has removed some 150 street vendors scattered in the area around Dongseong Road, one of the most crowded places in the city.
A total of 225 public servants, police officers and other outsourced workers were dispatched to remove street stalls in the areas around Daegu Department Store, Daewoo Building and Central Security Center.
No violent clashes with street vendors were reported, except for a few who protested the move, a Junggu district official said.
But a coalition of some 100 street vendors in the area will take to the streets for their right to make a living as street vendors through Sept. 3.
