A Japanese woman was found hanging by a scarf in a Korean carrier's lavatory Wednesday minutes before landing.
On a Korean Air flight bound to Incheon from Honolulu, Hawaii, a flight attendant found that the 29-year-old passenger had hung herself using a clothes hook in an apparent suicide attempt in the lavatory around 5:20 p.m.
Cabin crew and a passenger, who was doctor, performed emergency treatment to no avail. She died while being transferred to the hospital at Incheon International Airport after the plane arrived some 10 minutes later.
``When the flight attendant checked passengers ahead of the arrival at 5:30 p.m., the woman's companion said she went to the restroom. After finding her, crewmembers performed emergency treatment, but she died after arrival,'' a Korean Air official said.
The relationship between her and the companion was not immediately known, according to the official.
The woman was scheduled to transfer at Incheon to Fukuoka later in the evening.
Police reported the case to the Japanese embassy in Seoul. They are investigating the exact cause of the death.
