3,000 File Suit Against Hanaro Telecom

About 3,000 former and current subscribers to Hanaro Telecom Monday filed a class-action suit against the company for allegedly selling their personal information to telemarketers.
Police said in April that former managers of the company had sold the private information of some 6 million users to telemarketing companies.
Lawyer Yu Cheol-min Monday sent a complaint to the Seoul Central District Court on behalf of them, demanding 1 million won in compensation for each subscriber.
In the complaint, Yu said some of the former executive members of the telecom company had illegally leaked subscribers' personal information to telemarketing companies in 2006 and 2007, which resulted in them receiving unwanted calls several times a day.
``The executive members intentionally, repeatedly and systematically leaked their customers' personal information without properly protecting it,'' Yu said. ``It has obviously caused damage to customers.''
Police are still investigating the case
