Villagers in Deokseong-ri, Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province, the hometown of President-elect Lee Myung-bak, Wednesday hailed Lee's victory in the election.
All villagers cast their votes early in the morning and awaited the results in the town hall. When Lee's victory was confirmed, they were all excited and proud to have a president from their town.
Lee's sister, Gui-seon, 78, who lives near the village, said that she was happy that her brother overcame hardship and achieved victory.
Lee's neighbors in Gahoe-dong, Seoul also were glad to know the result and expressed their hopes that Lee will become a beloved president.
Many of them also hoped that Lee will take good care of the nation's sluggish economy by facilitating his experiences as a successful businessman and former Seoul Mayor.
