A spacious public park will be built around Incheon International Airport by 2009.

The Incheon International Airport Corp. has teamed up with Forest for Life, an environmental civic group, and Jung-gu ward office in Incheon to build the ``World Peace Forest" on 188,240 square meters of land around the airport by the end of 2009.

The signing ceremony for the project was held Wednesday at the airport company in Incheon with numerous guests including Lee Jae-hee, CEO of Incheon International Airport Corp., Kim Hu-ran, head of the civic group and Park Seung-sook, chief administrator of Jung-gu.

The project is estimated to cost about 15 billion won. The funds required will be made through government's donation and fund-raising campaign through the public.

``We wish to improve environment around the area by making the forest,'' said Lee.
