Who Is Wendy Sherman?

Wendy Sherman has worked as special advisor and point person for North Korea for former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

From July 1997 to January 2001, she was the counselor of the U.S. State Department, with the rank of ambassador, and the North Korea policy coordinator.

She served then U.S. Secretary of State Albright as a consultant on major issues of foreign policy, and she played an instrumental role in carrying out former President Clinton's engagement policy toward North Korea.

Sherman is also one of the few Americans who have met North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

In 2000, she spent two days with Kim Jong-il during then U.S. Secretary of State Albright's diplomatic mission to North Korea.

From 1993 to 1996, she served the then U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher as an assistant secretary for legislative affairs, where she directed legislative efforts of the U.S. State Department with U.S. Congress.

Among other issues, she led successful efforts to obtain funding for Russia and the newly-independent states after the break-up of the Soviet Union.

She had also worked in strategic communications as a partner in the political consulting firm of Doak, Shrum, Harris and Sherman from 1991 to 1993. Prior to that, she directed EMILY's List, the largest financial and political resource for pro-choice Democratic women candidates in the United States.

Sherman has worked for more than 25 years in both public and private sectors. Currently, she is the principal of the Albright Group.
