Ji Choong-ho, who attacked Park Geun-hye, the former chairwoman of the Grand National Party, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday.

The Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s decision on Ji who was charged with a violation of the Civil Servants Election Law and attempted murder.

In May last year, Ji, then 50, was indicted for attempted murder after slashing Park’s face with a box cutter as she participated in a street campaign in central Seoul to speak in support of Oh Se-hoon, the then GNP candidate for Seoul mayor.

A local court gave him a prison term of 11 years while the appeal court sentenced him to 10 years.

Both courts, however, did not convict him of attempted murder, saying there was no evidence that he intended to kill the former chairwoman.
