During my history class, my teacher assigned a report on the American Civil War. Although explicitly advising against using AI chatbots like ChatGPT, the appeal of their convenience and efficiency was hard to resist. Upon returning home to work on the report, I initially turned to traditional research methods by consulting a book from my collection. However, time constraints and the demands of other subjects made reading an entire book daunting.

I resorted to the internet, encountering numerous articles and blog posts on the topic. While attempting to absorb all the available information, I realized the immense time investment required for comprehensive research. Feeling overwhelmed, I recalled my teacher's admonition and considered alternative options.

In light of the challenges posed by traditional research methods, I decided to input the report topic into ChatGPT. To my surprise, a well-structured and coherent report was instantly generated. After some editing and revisions, I completed the assignment. However, a nagging concern arose about the ethical implications and the risk of getting caught for using AI chatbots, as my teacher explicitly prohibits their use.

This predicament is not unique to me alone. It seems that schools are aware of these challenges and are adapting their academic policies accordingly. Assignments and projects are being de-emphasized in favor of in-person assessments, reducing the weightage of homework submissions. This shift allows schools to evaluate students' creativity and comprehensive thinking through exams while acknowledging the role of AI chatbots as a tool for acquiring information and completing assignments efficiently.

From my perspective, it would be ideal if schools adopted a balanced approach to education, harnessing the power of advanced technologies like AI chatbots while addressing their potential drawbacks. Maximizing the benefits of AI chatbots, such as aiding research and facilitating information retrieval, can enhance students' learning experiences. Furthermore, combining the outputs generated by AI chatbots with insightful feedback from teachers would yield a comprehensive educational outcome.

Recent reports suggest that AI chatbots demonstrate remarkable capabilities in various fields, far surpassing mere information retrieval. For instance, they successfully complete medical and legal exams, achieving high scores. In creative domains like art and design, AI chatbots even produce exceptional works. These advancements in AI technology, including chatbots with built-in search capabilities, are truly awe-inspiring.

As an aspiring media artist, the emergence of this AI-driven era both excites and intimidates me. I am compelled to consider the efforts and inspiration required to carve out my niche in this changing landscape. While concerns about AI chatbots are valid, with a thoughtful approach that prioritizes ethical guidelines and encourages critical thinking, we can harness the power of AI to amplify creativity and efficiency without compromising integrity.
