Vietnam’s Sun Group Chairman Dang Minh Truong highlighted the irresistible appeal of Phu Quoc to Korean tourists while revealing plans to establish it as a top-tier destination. Phu Quoc is the largest island in the Southeast Asian country.
"On average, around 25 percent of our resort guests on Phu Quoc Island are from Korea," Truong said in a recent written interview with The Korea Times. “New World Phu Quoc Resort is especially favored by Korean visitors, who account for 40 percent of our total guests.”
The chairman anticipates further growth with six daily flights added from Korea to Phu Quoc as of late December and the island's inherent charm, projecting a "30 percent growth in the number of Korean visitors in 2024."

Korean Air, the national carrier of Korea, commenced daily flights from Incheon to Phu Quoc on Nov. 26, marking its inaugural direct regular flight route to the destination. Moreover, Jin Air, a subsidiary of Korean Air, launched direct flights to Phu Quoc with seven weekly services starting Dec. 24. This move is expected to contribute to a rise in the number of Korean tourists visiting the region.
Describing Sun Group resorts, the chairman elucidates, "Each resort has its own distinctive character and theme. From the imaginative 1920s university concept at JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort to the coastal fishing village inspiration at New World Phu Quoc Resort, the goal is to captivate visitors.”
The overarching principle is "Service from the heart," aligning with international standards to deliver unrivaled service excellence. He aims to forge partnerships with Korean travel companies like Hana Tour and team up with Korean airlines, including Korean Air, to offer exclusive programs to fuel an increase in Korean tourists to the region,
"We have designated Korean staff members to enhance the customer experience," Truong said, highlighting main attractions such as the cable car experiences, Kiss Bridge and others that will well cater to Korean preferences.
“Phu Quoc is the only place in Vietnam where all visitors enjoy visa-free entry of up to 30 days,” he added.
Sun Group intends to roll out special pricing policies for Korean partners and tourists in 2024. Collaborations with international markets, particularly Korea, will include perks such as complimentary tickets to the Kiss of the Sea show and discounts on Sun World properties.
Troung said Sun Group remains committed to continuous investment to transform the region into a world-class tourist paradise.
"Our commitment to South Phu Quoc involves continuously investing, developing and introducing new facilities and services. Our aim is to continually elevate the southern part of Phu Quoc Island into a world-class tourist paradise," he said. “We aspire to position Phu Quoc as a competitive counterpart to popular destinations such as Bali and the Maldives.”
