# Busan Sea Festival

When: Aug. 1-5

Where: Haeundae and other major beaches in Busan

The Busan Sea Festival has opened Aug. 1 every year since 1996 on various beaches in Busan, including Haeundae and Gwangalli. The festival in the country's largest port city consists of various programs and cultural performances showcasing the city's attractions. Festival events include the following: an international rock music festival, hip-hop and magic festivals, K-pop concerts and activities, such as swimming, yachting and windsurfing.

# Gangjin Celadon Festival

When: July 28-Aug. 3

Where: Gangjin, South Jeolla Province

Goryeo celadon is one of Korea's unique cultural assets and enjoys international acclaim. For those who want to see for themselves the secrets to making a Goryeo celadon, a trip to Gangjin, the birthplace and a major production base of the pottery in South Jeolla Province, will certainly be a good experience.

Programs include workshops, exhibitions, performances of traditional and contemporary music, dances and other artistic genres, as well as do-it-yourself events. Visitors will have a chance to buy celadon works at discounted prices.

# Keochang International Festival of Theatre

When: July 27-Aug. 5

Where: Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province

Around 10 theatrical groups from abroad will present plays at outdoor theaters in the town of Wicheon, Geochang County, during the 30th Keochang International Festival of Theatre. The festival has played an important role in bringing local plays to a global audience and developing South Korea's dramatic arts industry since 1989. Geochang also boasts beautiful scenery and is surrounded by the famous Jiri, Deogyu and Gaya mountains.

# Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival

When: Aug. 10-14

Where: Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province

Hansan is an island in Tongyeong off the southern coast where the historical Hansan Daecheop, or Great Battle of Hansan, took place in July 1592. During the annual Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival, actors re-enact the heroic sea battle where Korean naval ships led by Adm. Yi Sun-sin destroyed an invading Japanese armada. Over 100 ships will take part in the re-enactment, which will be the highlight of the commemorative festival.
