10th anniversary of Kimjang's UNESCO inscription

International students participate in Kimjang, or kimchi-making, at an event hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration at Korea House in central Seoul, Monday, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Kimjang's inclusion in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Kimjang, a traditional Korean practice of preparing and sharing kimchi using cabbage, chili powder, salt and other ingredients, symbolizes the communal effort to prepare for winter. This cultural practice, embedded in Korea's identity, emphasizes living in harmony with nature. It was recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance in 2013. Yonhap
