Winners of 15th Economic Essay Contest announced

The Korea Times is pleased to announce the winners of its 15th English Economic Essay Contest for university students on one of two subjects: “How can Korea create more decent jobs and encourage more young people to participate in economic activity?” and, “What kind of policies or changes should Korea adopt to attract more foreign professionals to the country?”
Kirsty Goodman, who majors in international peace and security at Korea University Graduate School of International Studies, won the Grand Award among submissions on the first topic. Kim Young-il, who studies philosophy and economics at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, was the winner for the second topic.
Goodman will receive a round-trip ticket from Incheon to the U.K. and Kim will get a round-trip ticket from his country of residence to Incheon.
The two runner-ups were Wee So-yeon of Ewha Womans University's Department of English Language and Literature, who currently studies at Universidad Camilo Jose Cela in Spain as an exchange student; and Jonathan Humphrey, a monetary economics major at Korea University Graduate School. Each will receive a laptop computer.
The three commendation awards went to Chang Bo-mi, a junior at Konkuk University's Department of International Trade; Paik Ji-won, a junior at Yonsei University's Underwood International College; and Olivia Truesdale, a foreign languages major at Scripps College in California who currently studies at Yonsei University. Each will get a round-trip ticket between Seoul and Jeju Island.
They will receive their awards at a ceremony on Nov. 27 at the Lotte Hotel Seoul. Their essays will be published in that day's edition of The Korea Times.
