The Korea Times is pleased to announce the winners of the 11th English Essay Contest for university students on two subjects related to the ways to enhance competitiveness of Korean banks and to apply financial technology to financial services — one for foreign students and the other for domestic students.

One of the two Grand Awards goes to senior student Lim Jee-soo who studies international studies at Yonsei University’s Underwood International College, the winner from Korean entries. The other goes to sophomore Tuneer De who majors in economics in the University of Chicago of the United States from the international entries.

Lim will receive a round-trip ticket from Incheon to Los Angeles and Tuneer will receive a round-trip ticket from Chicago to Incheon.

There is only one runner-up: Nigerian native Princewill Udom who he says is currently undertaking higher education training in Nigeria with an aim to lecture in the field of economics. The prize is a high-end laptop computer.

The three Commendation Awards winners are Choi Si-young, a master of law at Yonsei University and honorary editor-in-chief of Yonsei European Studies; Kim Hyeong-in, a senior student who studies political science and diplomacy at Ewha Womans’ University; and Lee Dong-min, a double major in International and East Asian studies at Johns Hopkins University.

Each of them will be given a round-trip ticket between Gimpo and Jeju Island.

Their essays will be published on Nov. 10 to celebrate the 65th anniversary of The Korea Times, the country’s oldest English daily, which falls on Nov. 1.

All winners will be individually contacted for information regarding the award ceremony scheduled to be held at the Plaza Hotel on Nov. 10.
