Kim Kwang-han, a popular radio disc jockey and TV show host whose career flourished in the 1980s and 1990s, died of a heart attack aged 69 on Thursday

Kim was moved to hospital after he collapsed on Monday. He seemed to show signs of recovery but his condition suddenly declined and he died after three days in intensive care.

This year marked Kim’s 50th anniversary since his debut as a radio DJ at the age of 19. He was the youngest DJ to debut in Korea.

Kim led pop music’s golden age in Korea, along with Kim Kee-duck, another top DJ whose radio show also thrived during that time.

He hosted KBS 2FM’s “Kim Kwang-han’s Pop Dial” from 1982 to 1994 and “Kim Kwang-han’s Memory of Golden Pops” in 1999. From 1987 to 1991, the popular DJ also hosted “Show Video Jockey” on KBS 2TV.

Kim was also the official DJ for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.
