Artist Oh Sea-young is having an exhibition in commemoration of his 55-year painting, printmaking and brush-works career.

The exhibition, “Signs of Mentality,” is taking place at the Chosun Ilbo art gallery (April 2-7), and Misul Segye in Insa-dong (April 9-15), Seoul.

The event also celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Misul Segye monthly art magazine. Born in 1939 in Seoul, Oh was a fine art major at Seoul National

University, and later went on to Hongik University graduate school.

He went to Pratt Institute in New York in 1981, and later studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in the U.S.

The awards he has won include first prize at the 1985 Media Art Exhibition in Pennsylvania, the gold medal at The Alex Papale Awards from the Da Vinci Art Alliance in 1987, the International Award of Excellence from Die Treppe Gallery,

Germany in 1991 and the Best Artist Award given by the Korea Contemporary

Artist Society in 2001.

The exhibition is sponsored by Starkey Korea, a hearing aid manufacturer.

Oh himself has long suffered from hearing impairment and has been using Starkey’s products for more than 20 years.

Starkey Korea CEO Shim Sang-don said this event is held as part of its CSR (corporate social responsibility) program.

Oh’s works are also exhibited at the Starkey building in Seongsudong, Seoul, which is open to the public during weekdays.

A portion of the proceeds made from the sales of his artwork will be donated to the Seoul Special Olympics Committee.
