KCCI chairman chosen for Van Fleet award

Park Yong-maan, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), was selected as the recipient of this year’s James A. Van Fleet Award.
Park, who is also chairman of Doosan Group, will receive the award at the Korea Society’s annual dinner in Manhattan, New York City, May 5.
Park studied business administration at Seoul National University before earning his MBA from Boston University. He entered Dongsan Construction (now Doosan Engineering and Construction) in 1982, and served as chairman of Doosan Infracore and Doosan Corporation before being appointed chairman of Doosan Group.
He was elected chairman of the KCCI in August.
The James A. Van Fleet Award is given to distinguished Koreans or Americans for their contribution to U.S.-Korea relations.
The award is named after Gen. James A. Van Fleet, commander of the U.S. Eighth Army during the 1950-53 Korean War and first president of the Korea Society.
Former recipients of the award include late Korean President Kim Dae-jung, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo.
