Singer Kim Jang-hoon received a plaque of appreciation for his philanthropic work from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Kim's management company said Wednesday.
“I feel encouraged to have had American society recognize my efforts,” Kim said upon receiving the plaque. “All I did was hold three performances and a donation event.”
Kim was granted the plaque in recognition of his many donations and concerts.
The plaque reads, “A true angel in a 'city of angels.'”
Kim donated more than $11,000 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, New York University's student council and a Korean community in the United States.
Kim was on a concert tour in the U.S. However, he has temporarily returned to Korea to plan and direct the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) World Peace Concert, to be held in August.
Mayor Villaraigosa, at the award ceremony, asked the singer to take part in his a philanthropic business that he is planning. Kim agreed.
“If I continue holding concerts and giving donations, I am sure that within two years American people will view Koreans differently,” Kim added.
