Singer to stage flash mob to promote peace

Singer Kim Jang-hoon, along with a number of Korean students studying in the United States, will stage a flash mob in Los Angeles on May 4 to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula, the International Student’s Rights Center (ISRC) announced Wednesday.
The performance will convey a message of hope for a tension-free Korea, and will call on the North to stop its provocative acts and threats of war.
Singer Kim plans to perform with a traditional Korean percussion band from the University of California, Los Angeles, and other Korean students.
“I hope this becomes an opportunity to publicize the importance of peace and security in Korea among U.S. citizens,” said Lee Yong-gi, 29, a participating student.
The flash mob will be held either in front of the Dolby Theater located in Hollywood, or at a plaza located in Koreatown, he said.
The aim to promote stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula follows North Korea’s long-range rocket launch and third nuclear test earlier this year as well as the recent closure of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
The complex is a joint inter-Korean industrial park in the North’s border city of Gaeseong. The North closed the complex down unilaterally after it banned entry of the South’s employees to it during the first two weeks of this month.
The ISRC, created in 2010, is a nongovernmental organization (NGO) registered with the U.S. government, which helps international students solve social and law-related problems and offers support to students residing in the United States.
