Two whistleblowers who revealed key information about the death of a tortured student in 1987 have revealed themselves to the public for the first time in about 25 years after the case fueled powerful pro-democracy movements.
Ahn Yu, 68, who was security chief at Yeongdeungpo Detention Center at that time, and Han Jae-dong, 66, a correctional officer there, told the story during the 25th memorial ceremony for Park Jong-chul at the location of a former police “torture room” in Seoul, Saturday.
