Korean Air CEO Cho Yang-ho has been appointed the first East Asian ambassador of the Peace and Sport Foundation at an event in Vancouver.

An active leader in the world of sports, Cho currently serves as the president of the Korea Table Tennis Association and vice president of the Asia Table Tennis Union.

The ambassadorship is in recognition for his contributions to promoting world peace through sports diplomacy, the airline said in a press release.

Founded in 2007, the Peace and Sport Foundation is an international non-profit organization that promotes world peace through sports. Joel Bouzou, the current General Secretary of the Modern Pentathlon International Union and an Olympic medal-winning pentathlete, is the founder.

The foundation has nine active ambassadors, five of whom are members of the International Olympic Committee, including King Albert II of Monaco.
