Koo Gwang-mo, 31, the oldest son of LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo, will marry his 27-year-old girlfriend later this month, the company said Thursday.
The younger Koo is the fourth-largest shareholder in LG Corp., the holding company of the conglomerate, and is seen by some industry watchers as a likely successor to his father at the group's management helm.
The bride, Jeong Hyo-jeong, 27, is the daughter of Jeong Gi-ryeon, the president of Borak, a maker of processed food ingredients. LG didn't release the exact date and venue of the wedding.
Gwang-mo is the son of Koo Bon-neung, the president of the Heesung Group and younger brother of Koo Bon-moo. The LG chairman took in Gwang-mo as a foster child in 2004, in what many saw as a preparation for a wealth transfer within LG's founding family.
Gwang-mo owns 4.67 percent of LG Corp., the fourth-most shares behind Koo Bon-moo; Koo Bon-joon, who heads LG International; and Koo Bon-neung.
He met Jeong while studying at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Having completed a master of business administration (MBA) course at Stanford University in August, Gwang-mo is expected to return to Korea and take up a position at LG Electronics.
