Queen World Tour Exhibition: Bohemian Rhapsody

Ara Art Center

Dedicated to one of the world's music legends, this exhibition features the rock band Queen. Formed in 1970, the group went on to release classics such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You.” Although only two original members remain, the group is still active today, and has released over 30 albums. Their story was made into a 2018 film, which saw great popularity at the box office. The exhibition, covering four floors of the center, features both their work and personal stories.

Architecture and Heritage: Unearthing Future

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea

Until April 2020

This exhibition will show how modern contemporary architects have envisioned the future of Korean architecture. While preserving Korea's traditional buildings, they have also included contemporary elements in their works, and depict the country in its potential future form. Space Popular, CL3, Bureau Spectacular, OBBA and Obra Architects are the five groups whose works will be featured in this exhibition.

Released in 1939, “The Wizard of Oz” is one of America's most iconic films, as it was one of the first color movies. Revolving around Dorothy, a girl from Kansas, the film follows her on a magical journey through the magical Land of Oz. In order to get home, she must go through a series of obstacles to find the Wizard. Along the way, she befriends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion who help her while overcoming struggles of their own. At the exhibition, visitors will be able to see still cuts behind the movie production as well as related artwork from various artists.

My Name is Anne of Green Gables

“Anne of Green Gables” is a well-loved novel published in 1908 by Canadian author L.M. Montgomery, and remains of the most famous children's novels to this day. The story is about an 11-year-old orphan called Anne and her adventures after she is sent to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Known for her bright red hair, Anne stands out from the crowd and has a vivid imagination and warm heart. The book has been adapted into several films, radio adaptations and stage productions, and continues to inspire children today. At this exhibition, her world will be brought to life, with various artists displaying their different interpretations of Green Gables through art.

Jaime Hayon ― Serious Fun

Born in Madrid, Jaime Hayon is an artist and designer whose vibrant artistic vision has led him to work with some of the world's top brands including Swarovski and Baccarat. He strives to bring together design, renaissance, art and contemporary culture to his work. Hayon is based in Valencia, but also has studios in Barcelona and Treviso. He has won several Elle Decoration International Design Awards and has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the most influential visionaries today. This exhibition will feature his works, ranging from furniture to decorative pieces.

Love of Light

This exhibition will feature light displays using the three primary colors of light: red, green, and blue. By intricately arranging these colors together with shadows, the exhibition will immerse visitors into pools of vibrant light. A total of 15 artists will have their work featured in this exhibition including Dennis Parren from the Netherlands and the Lit Art group from Korea.

National Geographic Photo Exhibition: Nature's Odyssey

“Nature's Odyssey” is National Geographic's traveling exhibition and features some of the world's most stunning photography. The collection shows how the world's landscape has changed throughout time to be what it is today. It also depicts the deep relationship between nature and humanity, and how the two have coexisted with one another. The exhibition will be divided into five sections: Pale Blue Dot, Great Steps, Open Eyes, Heart to Heart and One Strange Rock, and will show visitors the importance of taking care of our planet.

Winnie the Pooh: Exploring a Classic

Winnie the Pooh fans will be able to visit his world in an upcoming exhibition at the SOMA Museum of Art. Created in 1921 by A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh started as a children's book revolving around the toy bear and his friends. Later adapted for film, radio and television, Winnie the Pooh was one of Disney's largest franchises. At the exhibition, visitors will be able to see the creative process behind Winnie the Pooh as well as see the original drawings that led to the legacy that would last generations.

Korean International Art Fair

Having first started in 2002, the Korean International Art Fair (KIAF Art Seoul) is the country's largest art fair and hosts both domestic and international art exchanges. The fair will not only promote work of the nation's artists, but also will showcase contemporary art trends and the landscape of today's art industry. In addition to exhibition booths showing off the work of the artists, “Romanticism in History-Korean Modernism Painting Exhibition” will be a highlight exhibition.

This exhibition is dedicated to the famous artists of 19th century France, including Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. There will also be sections of the exhibition dedicated to creating one's own French-style artwork.

Barbara Kruger: Forever

Barbara Kruger is an American artist whose collages and caption-based pieces have garnered the attention of many. By writing powerful statements in bold print, Kruger has garnered the attention of both art lovers and social activists. Several of her most famous quotes include “Your body is a battleground,” “I shop therefore I am,” and “You are not yourself.” She has been working for over 40 years and has not backed down in the face of controversy. For this particular exhibition, she has created a new piece which visitors will be able to view alongside her other works.

This large-scale exhibition will bring together the works of several of the most prominent artists from the 19th to 21st centuries. Seurat, Mondrian, Gaudi, Matisse, Degas, Millet, Gogh, and Mucha will be the featured artists. Their genres range from post-impressionist paintings to theatrical posters. Several of them have become legendary figures of art history, influencing generations of art students and curators to this day. The Children's Museum, located in the National Museum of Korea, is an activity-oriented museum where children can appreciate history. Through the exhibition, children can learn about the ways of life and wisdom of people in ancient times through various experiential exhibits. The museum also provides educational programs that allow children to observe and touch cultural artifacts by themselves and develop their interest in history and culture.
