2015 S/S COLOR TREND

By Victoria Kim
The spring/summer season of 2015 presents a vast assortment of colors, many of which evolved from the past few seasons. This report focuses on the most influential color families and combinations as well as emerging hues.
Although at times it feels repetitive, we do see shifts and updates in the color. An emerging family called Retro Muted may have not been in the front lines, but felt new and fresh to our creative team.
Shades have become softer and more powdery, leveraged in either head-to-toe looks or combined with stronger colors for a bold twist.
Desert Neutrals stand out because of its rich tone. Kitschy Mid-tones combine mid-tones with punchy hues like melon or periwinkle.
Active Brights remain at the forefront this season which, when leveraged in combinations, achieve a clever mix. Regal Darks continued from the autumn jewel tones with hues such as bottle green and burgundy.

REAL-UNREAL
As one of the season's freshest themes, the “Real & Virtual” color palette achieves a balance of bright and unexpected hues. Powder tones are the essence with custard, mint, sorbet, feather grey and lavender. More saturated shades of bubble gum, fuchsia and lemon also come into play.
Filtered Whites
White has been around for several seasons but the color palette offers something fresh this spring/summer season. A clean slate is apparent via soft neutrals, ranging from light tones of vanilla to more saturated foundation. Light tints of custard and mint factor in, while navy offers a strong base option as an alternative to black or white.
Coppery Liquid
“Coppery Liquid” provides one of the most pleasurable desert-inspired palettes we've seen in a while. An assortment of neutrals such as skin, warm sand and vanilla serve as an update when contrasted with rust, chestnut and olive. Soft and subtle blues such as cornflower and chambray balance out the warmer tones.
Ever-Blooming
The “Ever-Blooming” palette features red as a dominant color in shades of deep ruby and burgundy. Other warm hues such as coral and indigo pink provide a hint of nostalgia recalling the 1920s. Grape and fuchsia come in as accents. Soft tones of light grey and salmon round out the palette.
Sunny Pumpkin
The “Sunny Pumpkin” theme presents a palette which is as soft as it is rich. Unexpected powder tones of custard, blush, skin and vanilla are contrasted with metallic gold. A selection of bright palettes like red orange and melon are met with periwinkle blue and leveraged in patterns.
Horizon Blue
“Horizon Blue” strikes a balance amongst an assortment of cool blue tones and warmer accents. Marine blue acts as a base, while shots of electric blue and aqua are positioned as fashion colors. Warmer shades such as sky blue and light turquoise blue resemble the sun's reflection against the water and the sun lights on the beach.
Shimmer Green
The “Shimmer Green” color combination offers a neutral heavy palette with a touch of ethnic and nature-inspired tone. Favored neutrals include green-yellow, which are balanced against rust, chestnut and olive. Marigold comes in as a trim accent, while moist moss green and khaki green shades are offered as base options.
