Watching a movie at a theater no longer requires audiences to squeeze into uncomfortable seats and sit passively until the final credits roll, provided you’re willing to pay double the cost of the average ticket.
MEGABOX BOUTIQUE M
Opened in July, the Megabox Boutique M, situated inside the COEX mall in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul, offers a unique relaxing and pampered experience for theater-goers.
It is not only spacious, providing individual private spaces for customers, it also provides great service ― you’re treated like a hotel guest.
The theater has two types of rooms ― Suite and Comfort. The rooms are numbered as in hotels. The Suite rooms Nos. 101, 102, and 103 have 36 seats each, most of which are in pairs, except the two four-people seats at the very back.
The Powder room in women's restroom extends the homely experience in the theater.
Each compartment has cushioned arm chairs that allow one to easily adjust the seating position. There’s also a footrest and two tables, one by the foot and the other by the side equipped with a lamp.
The “Welcome Package” includes a blanket, indoor slippers, Evian water, wet tissue, refreshment candies, and room service menu for each “guest.”
The theater is equipped with an advanced audio system and quality projection system that satisfies two most important senses - sight and sound.
Comfort rooms, Nos. 104 and 105, have a more casual atmosphere than the Suite rooms.
The Comfort rooms No. 104 and 105, which provide a more casual atmosphere than the Suite rooms, provide tables for refreshments and for bag storage. But the arm chairs here lack the position adjusting function.
Adjustable armchairs and “Welcome package” are provided in Suite rooms
Megabox Boutique M has partnerships with a few food and beverage brands. Coffee brand “Anthracite,” tea brand “TAVALON,” and pizza brand “PIZZARIUM” are available choices to choose from as part of the package as well as 10 types of premium beer.
Visitors may also taste unique delights such as green tea ice cream made with ingredients from Jeju Island and cocktail made out of Cuban rum.
Tickets for the Suite room are priced at 25,000 won on weekdays and 30,000 on the weekends and the Comfort room is for 11,000 won on weekdays and 12,000 on the weekends. For more information, visit www.megabox.co.kr or call 1544-0070.

Dining at the theater: CINE de CHEF
CINE de CHEF, which means “theater of the chef” in French, is a unique cultural space combining theater and restaurant.
Opened in Apgujeong in 2007, CINE de CHEF has two high quality theaters, a restaurant that can accommodate up to 80 guests, and space for group meetings.
The space has unique sofas, chairs, and side tables for tea service which makes the theater feel more like a private lounge than a traditional movie theater. Each theater is equipped with Hi-Fi sound system and 11.1 Channel sound system with 360-degree three-dimensional sound effect.
“In cinema dining” offers fingerfoods inside the theater
When purchasing tickets for the dinner and movie package here, visitors are provided with a course dish prepared by chefs from five star hotels. When the dining is over, visitors move up a stair to the second floor which is a spaciously designed theater with luxurious bed type arm chairs.
The dishes are prepared in French or Italian with seasonal ingredients selected by the chefs. Lunch course is priced from 40,000 won and dinner course is from 70,000 won. The theater experience without other options is available at 40,000 won.
