AMC launches app for cancer patients
Asan Medical Center (AMC) has launched a smartphone application for cancer patients getting chemotherapy.
Based on diverse animations and graphics, the application is focusing on helping patients understand the complications of chemotherapy. It gives information on techniques, such as the characteristics of anticancer drugs the patient is taking, possible side effects, and the occasions when the patients should visit the emergency room. Information on government health insurance coverage and diet, tips on daily activities and memoirs by patients who overcame cancer are also included.
The application is provided for free at Apple App Store and T Store for Android phones, and is soon to be available at the Google Play Store as well.
Ultrasound conference scheduled
The Ian-Donald Inter-University School of Medical Ultrasound, an international organization dedicated to ultrasound training, is holding a conference at Chungang University R&D Center from May 3 to 5.
The school, which is a sister organization of the World Association of Perinatal Medicine, is holding the conference for the first time in Korea on topics such as human embryonic development, ultrasound scanning during pregnancy and ultrasound scanning of the heart of the fetus, accompanied by demonstrations. Prof. Yoon gets presidential award

Prof. Yoon Seok-jun at Korea University College of Medicine has won a presidential award for his contribution to a National Health Promotion Project, during a ceremony for the “Health Day” that fell on April 7, hosted by the health ministry.
The professor of preventive medicine participated in the planning and evaluation of the project, on top of leading other public health policies of the country. He is also leading the metabolic syndrome management project at Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Class for breast cancer patients planned
Korea University Medical Center’s Anam Hospital will hold a class for breast cancer patients to give tips on a healthy diet. This is the fourth in the series of lectures the hospital organized for breast cancer patients.
No Ha-na, a nutritionist at the hospital, will give the presentation. The class is scheduled at the conference room on the 8th floor of the hospital, at 2 p.m. on April 18. Class on prenatal care to be held
Kyunghee University Hospital is holding a class on prenatal care and breastfeeding for moms-to-be and their spouses.
Prof. Lee Kyung-a at the hospital will give a presentation on prenatal care, including exams that pregnant women should go through, diet and health management during pregnancy, while Kim Hyo-mi, a nurse who holds International Board of Lactation Consultant certificate, will give a lecture on breastfeeding.
