'Visiting performances' for the elderly

The government will be offering "visiting cultural performances" for the elderly at parks throughout the nation for the first time this year. The performances will take place at eight parks across the country from August through November.

Performance genres vary from fusion gugak (traditional Korean music), accordion performances to crane dances.

The parks where performances will be held are Seoul’s Tapgol Park, Busan’s Yongdusan Park, Daegu’s Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park, Incheon’s Jayu Park, Gwangju’s Sajik Park, Daejeon’s Seo Daejeon Park and Woorideul Park, and Ulsan’s Taehwaroo Nugak.

The visiting performances have been newly added to the government’s existing cultural programs for the elderly, which have been designed to support cultural activities for them. The programs are organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and The Federation of the Korean Cultural Center.

Cultural programs for the elderly began in 2007 and have been conducted for the past 10 years. Over 8,000 people have participated in 318 programs, according to government figures.
