‘Madangnori Chunhyang’ will be performed until Feb. 10 at the Main Hall Hae of the National Theater of Korea.
Continuing its series of Madangnori by the National Theater of Korea, this traditional Korean-style show features the love story of Chunhyang and Mongryong, mixed with humor and satire. About 70 performers will complete the party of Madangnori with traditional dance and music.

‘I Belong to the World’

A Seoul-Odense International Exchange Exhibition, “I Belong to the World” will be held until Feb. 21, 2016 at the Seoul Museum of History.
This exhibition presents 33 pieces of 19th century Danish fairy tale author Hans Christian Anderson, including his first book, published in 1835, drawings and keepsakes such as a fountain pen. “I Belong to the World” consists of two parts: The display section presents the work and life of Anderson, while the experience section presents works of artists who were motivated by Anderson and lets visitors assemble Lego blocks to display scenes from Anderson’s fairy tales.

MMCA Gwacheon is holding “Korean Contemporary Artist Series” in photography until June 6, featuring Yook Myoung-shim.
This exhibition plans to provide a foundation for research and development in Korean contemporary art history. It highlights the art world of veteran photographer Yook, introducing 30 artworks from his early years that have never been presented. A total of 190 works are exhibited.

‘Monet’s Impressionism Exhibition 2016’

The War Memorial of Korea will exhibit the works of Claude Monet until Feb. 8, 2016.
Monet was a French artist from the 1800s to early 1900s and one of the founders of impressionism. He focused on the principle of light, exploring how the same subject looks different under different lighting. His works include “Women in the Garden,” “Impression, Sunrise,” “Haystacks, (Sunset)” and “Water Lilies.”

‘Invisible Land of Love’
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea is exhibiting the works of AhnKyu-chul until Feb. 14.
This exhibition is a part of the MMCA Hyundai Motor Series to support domestic artists. Since the 1980s, Ahn has expressed his thoughts about life and the arts in his work.
The title “Invisible Land of Love” is excerpted from a poem by Ma Jong-gi, showing Ahn’s will to reveal the value of non-existence. Eight works of Ahn inspired by literature, architecture, music, performance and fine art will be exhibited. Some of the works will allow audience participation.

Alessandro Mendini ― The Poetry of Design

The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is exhibiting the works of Alessandro Mendini until Feb. 28, 2016.
Alessandro Mendini is a world-renowned designer and this exhibition is his first in East Asia. Six hundred works will be displayed under the direction of Mendini himself. The British Museum ― Human Image

Relics from the British Museum, one of the most prestigious in the world, are now in Korea. Varying from sculptures with a history of 10,000 years to world-famous paintings, a total of 167 artworks are presented at Hangaram Art Museum inside Seoul Arts Center.

An exhibition on Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh and other impressionist-inspired painters is being held at Cultural Station 284.
“Van Gogh Inside” will display more than 400 paintings, roughly half by Van Gogh and the rest by other painters including Claudet Monet, Pierre Auguste Renior and Edgar Degas. Some of the works of Van Gosh will be presented on a digital screen accompanied by music.

D Museum will hold a lighting art exhibition, “Spatial Illumination ― 9 Lights in 9 Rooms” until May.
The exhibition intends to stimulate the sensibility of space by exposing visitors to dispersed lights. Each of the “9 rooms” is separated with individual themes, and has lights spread in distinct orders. The lighting displays are enriched with music, movements and vibrant colors.

‘World of Mystery’

National Geographic is holding a “World of Mystery” exhibition to showcase stories from around the world at Seoul Arts Center.
In addition to National Geographic being well known for its articles about travel and history, the magazine has also been recognized for its astonishing quality of photography. Its latest photo exhibition in Korea explores humanity and nature through the lens, displaying eye-catching images of this mysterious world of ours. “World of Mystery” is divided into six sections: History of National Geographic, Mystery of Ancient Civilization, Mystery of the Universe, Mystery of the Wild, Mystery of the Water World and the Deep Sea Challenge Project.

William Kentridge ― Peripheral Thinking

“Peripheral Thinking,” an exhibition that showcases works by world-renowned South African artist William Kentridge, is being held at MMCA Seoul until Mar. 27 in Galleries 2, 3 and 4.
Kentridge began to receive attention from the international art arena in the early 1990s with his charcoal-drawn animation on the subject of racial discrimination and violence under Apartheid. Held for the first time in Korea, his solo exhibition will present the artist’s representative works.

Famous photographs by Herb Ritts will be exhibited from Feb. 5 to May 2 at Sejong Museum of Art.
Ritts is not only notable for his photographs of celebrities but is also known for his books on photography of fashion designers including Giorgio Armani, Channel, Gianni Versace, Cartier and Valentino. For the ‘Herb Ritts Works,’ more than 100 of his works are brought to Korea, including photos of Richard Gere, Elizabeth Taylor and Madonna. MMCA will hold the exhibition “Cho Sung-mook in Taste of Style” until June 6 at its Gwacheon branch.
As the 13th exhibition of the MMCA Contemporary Artist Series, the exhibition sheds light on veteran artists who have left distinct footsteps in the history of Korean contemporary art. Veteran sculptor Cho Sung-mook is considered a major artist as he constructed his own unique formative world while keeping his distance from popular trends.
