Visitors get down and dirty at Boryeong Mud Festival

The Boryeong Mud Festival in South Chungcheong Province has grown to be one of Korea’s hottest international festivals.
The event runs from July 15 to 23 at Daecheon beach, the only sandy beach on the Korean Peninsula’s west coast. A total of 320,000 foreigners enjoyed the festival last year, which accounted for almost 10 percent of total visitors.
Famous K-pop singer PSY entertained the crowd on Saturday amid the rain.
Festival visitors can enjoy various sports on mud, including a marathon, wrestling, football and a giant mud slide. Colored mud body painting is the most popular program, the official website says, while cosmetics made of mud also are on sale.
