Survey shows 41% of hallyu fans in US learning Korean language

About 41 percent of American fans of Korean TV dramas and pop music are learning Korean language, a survey showed Monday.

In the survey conducted by the L.A. branch office of the Korea Tourism Organization, 26 percent and 16 percent, respectively, answered that their interest in the Korean pop culture became a motive for tasting Korean food and buying Korean goods.

The survey canvassed 1,569 U.S. members of an online portal (www.soopi.com) that specializes in the boom of Korean pop culture known as "hallyu."

The survey also showed 43 percent of those surveyed had bought more than two CDs or DVDs of Korean pop music or TV dramas. (Yonhap)
