Turtle marathon in Seoul Sunday
Autumn is here and a stroll around Mt. Nam in downtown Seoul is a refreshing way to start the morning.
The Hankook Ilbo, a sister paper of The Korea Times, is hosting the 422nd Turtle Marathon, Sunday. The monthly event has drawn more than 120,000 people since 1978.
This month’s walk is hosted by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in a bid to promote the importance of health and fishery products.
Minister Suh Kyu-yong will lead the walkathon. The winners of the 2012 Miss Korea beauty pageant will also participate.
A variety of fried fish will be displayed at the event with free medical checkups offered to all participants.
Upon finishing the walk, TV presenter Lee Sang-yong will host a prize draw with prizes of dried yellow fish from the Fish Sale, an LED television from Samsung and more to be won.
Middle and high school students who participate in the cleanup afterwards will receive certification for two hours of volunteer work. Admission is free.
