Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina met Wednesday with the chief of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to discuss cooperation efforts, the foreign ministry said.

During the meeting with Mathias Cormann, OECD's secretary-general, Kim said that Korea is committed to proactively engaging in discussions to boost cooperation with the global economic forum, in areas including digital and artificial intelligence (AI)-related issues, demographic changes and energy transition.

Kim noted the importance of deepening engagement with the Indo-Pacific and Southeast Asian regions and asked the organization to continue its commitments in that regard.

Kim also said that expanding the presence of Korean nationals in the OECD is a key priority for Seoul and asked for the secretary-general's attention to ensure more Koreans get the chance to serve senior-level positions within the organization, the ministry said.
