Korea seeks support in expanding business in automotive, energy, infrastructure sectors in Kazakhstan

Korea's National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik met with Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Korea Nurgali Arystanov to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across various sectors on Monday.
During the meeting, Woo highlighted the significance of 2024 as the 15th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Korea and Kazakhstan.
"This year marks a milestone in our relationship," Woo said, "I hope our two countries will continue to collaborate closely, not only to deepen our bilateral ties but also to enhance relations between Korea and Central Asia."
Woo emphasized Kazakhstan's importance as Korea's largest trading partner and investment destination in Central Asia. He requested Kazakhstan's support in helping Korean companies expand their activities in key sectors, including automotive, energy and infrastructure.
The discussion also touched upon the repatriation of the remains of Gen. Hong Beom-do, a prominent Korean independence fighter, which took place in 2021 during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to Korea.
Woo described the event as a significant moment in the countries' relationship, reinforcing the "special bond" between the two nations. He also expressed satisfaction with the progress of a follow-up project, the establishment of an IT department at Kyzylorda State University, which he had actively promoted.
Arystanov thanked Korea for its ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation. The ambassador also sought continued support for the development of the IT department at Kyzylorda State University.
Arystanov also extended an invitation to Woo to visit Kazakhstan, coinciding with the 2nd Korea-Central Asia Parliamentary Speakers' Summit, scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan later this year.
