Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) distributed football kits and associated gear to children at a South Korean child welfare center, as part of a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative titled “Pass the Joy,” aimed at spreading the message of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

In a ceremony held at Myoungryun Child Welfare Center, Mashel Attiq Al-Merekhi, general manager of Qatargas' Korea Liaison Office (KLO), said: “Qatargas is delighted to undertake this activity for children of Myoungryun Child Welfare Center in Korea. As the host country of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, it gives all of us in Qatar great pleasure to pass the joy of this historic event to children in South Korea. This is particularly delightful as the South Korean national team is playing in this year's World Cup.”

Al-Merekhi acknowledged Myoungryun's strong foster care system established in 1951 to meet the developmental needs of vulnerable children and provide them with better opportunities to reach their full potential and help promote a successful transition to adulthood.

KLO representatives and officials from Myoungryun Child Welfare Center attended the ceremony. The kits included footballs, sports shoes, team jerseys, goal posts and nets, in addition to various other amenities for the center.

The center was established in 1951 during the 1950-53 Korean War to care for children and was later elevated to the status of an authorized public welfare corporation in 1958.

Qatargas KLO has been undertaking various CSR initiatives in Korea for the past 13 years mostly aimed at supporting children. In 2019, KLO undertook a campaign called “Warm Their Hearts” to assist children of the Sundukwon and Angel's Haven orphanages, located in Seoul, supporting them with warm clothes and other winter accessories.
