Kuwaiti culture comes to Korea
Kuwaiti Ambassador to Korea Jasem Albudaiwi will host a cultural event to further improve relations between Kuwait and Korea.
At the “2015 Kuwait Cultural Week in Korea,” slated for Dec. 18-20, well-known performing group Al Mass Band will present traditional melodies and dances using traditional musical instruments.
According to the embassy, the band will perform at the National Theater of Korea on Dec. 18 and 19 and give another show at Times Square in Yeongdeungpo-gu on Dec. 20.
Korea to get French tech hub
French Ambassador to Korea Fabien Penone is to launch a Korean version of French technology hub “La French Tech” on Dec. 10.
According to the French Embassy in Seoul, the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs set up “La French Tech” in 2013 to improve the French startup ecosystem and develop its international attractiveness.
“La French Tech” refers to all people working for or with French startups, in France or abroad.
At the “French Tech Seoul” launch, seven French startup companies — including Cedexis, Kerlink and Kinomap — are scheduled to introduce their technologies.
France has Europe's second-largest venture capital ecosystem. To turn the country into a startup incubator, the government created “Metropole French Tech,” which has been applied to 14 French cities and provinces this year.
The French Tech Hub in Seoul — to be unveiled at the ambassador's residence — was announced during French President Francois Holland's visit to Korea last month as part of France-Korea Year.
Celebration for Greek composer’s birthday
The Greek Embassy celebrated the 90th birthday of the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis at the Orthodox Church in Seoul on Nov. 28.
Teachers and students from the Greek Studies department at Hankuk University participated with the Greek Ambassador to Korea, Sourvanos Dionysios, and Korean authors and artists.
A band organized in the department performed songs by the composer, and 11 poems by Greek Nobel prize laureate Giorgos Seferis were translated.
The Orthodox Church of Korea and the Korean-Greek Friendship Association supported the event.
Charity marks Singapore independence
The Singapore Embassy organized a charity event in Korea as part of Singapore’s 50th independence anniversary this year.
According to the embassy, the annual bazaar, co-hosted with the Singapore Club, was a fun fair-style event that included Christmas gifts and lunch at Youngrak Borinwon in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on Dec. 5.
Borinwon, established in 1939, is home to about 75 children, aged from birth to high
school. Like other orphanages, it helps care for babies from Baby Box, increasingly important with the increasing number of abandoned babies each year.
Poland through Korean eyes
The Polish Embassy hosted an exhibition in collaboration with the University of Foreign Studies in Korea at the university in Seoul on Dec. 4.
According to the embassy, the “Poland through Korean eyes” consisted of two parts_ a collection of pictures awarded at a photo contest the embassy held earlier this year under the same title, a selection of photos taken by the Korean students dance group Mazurka, which visited Poland recently at the invitation of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Małgorzata Omilanowska.
Global Climate March: The European Union (EU) participated in the Global Climate March 2015 in Seoul on Nov. 29. The event took place on the eve of the opening of the U.N. climate change conference in Paris.
