Festival marks Independence Day
The Brazilian Embassy will host a festival to promote its culture as well as to mark Independence Day, which falls on Sept. 7, at Marronnier Park in Jongno, Seoul, on Sept. 12.
“Brazil Day Festival 2015,” is organized with the Brazilian Cultural Center and the Alianca Cultural Coreia Brasil.
The festival will feature Brazilian food, souvenirs, experience programs and music and dance performances, according to the Brazilian Cultural Center.

Uzbekistan Ambassador to Korea Botirjon Asadov hosted a reception to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence at the Lotte Hotel Seoul on Aug. 31.
Hundreds of envoys, including Government Administration and Home Affairs Minister Chong Jong-sup attended.
“The implementation of the ‘Uzbek model’ of reforms based on the five principles of transition to a socially-oriented free market economy has allowed our country to achieve strong results within a short historical period,” the ambassador said.
He also emphasized the importance of bilateral relations with Korea, established in 1991.
“The bilateral relations in the economic field have been developing successfully,” he said.
“There are over 400 joint ventures operating in Uzbekistan, and trade turnover between the two accounts more than $2 billion, which is about half the total trade turnover of Korea with all countries of the Central Asian region.”
BOLIVIA
Exhibition promotes Bolivian culture
The Bolivian Embassy will host an art exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Korea.
The exhibition, which will open at the 88 Art Gallery in Seoul on Sept. 10, will feature works by Korean painter Min Tae-hong and Bolivian contemporary artist Roberto Mamani Mamani.
Mamani, whose paintings are known for their vibrant colors and emotional impact, will also give lectures at Duksong Women’s University, the Catholic University of Korea and Pai Chai University in Daejeon on Sept. 15, 18 and 22, respectively.
Min, who won the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at Korea’s 36th Modern Art Contest, will present a total of 15 paintings under theme “The Creation of Heaven and Earth.”
The exhibition will run through Sept. 17.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Korea Zahid Nasrullah Khan held a reception to celebrate Pakistan’s 69th Independence Day at the Ti-Turtle in Mapo, Seoul, on Aug. 30.
More than 800 Pakistanis, including artist Sara Raza Khan, and lawmaker Jasmine Lee attended.
The ambassador urged the community to hold firmly to the principles of “our great leader, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah” and briefed guests on the remarkable economic and security achievements of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government.
