Concert Reminder for Common Korea-Israel History

The Korea-Israel Friendship Concert Thursday was the venue to remember 60 years of common history between Korea and Israel, which has included wars, fights for sovereignty and financial hardships in the making of economic achievement.
The Israeli Embassy together with the Israel Culture Center put on a classical concert in Seoul, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of Korea and the 60th Independence Day of Israel.
Acknowledging similar paths of development, Israeli Ambassador Yigal Caspi expressed hope that the concert will be leverage for strengthening the friendship. ``I hope that in the beautiful melodies created by the top musicians of the two nations, our relationship will be characterized by harmony on a higher plane.''
Likewise, Prime Minister Han Seung-soo hoped the concert would ignite ``closer exchanges and further progress in all aspects of bilateral relationship.''
Despite scant natural resources, Korea and Israel have succeeded in making economic prosperity, investing in human capital, science, and education. Now, both are leading countries in the field of science and technology. Korea and Israel established diplomatic relations in 1962.
The concert showcased two special musicians, a signature of increasing people-to-people relations.
Ariel Zuckermann, 36, the conductor, is one of Israel's proudest musicians, and was invited to perform for a Korean audience for the first time. He also conducted a grand anniversary concert in Berlin last month.
Susie Koh is a 13-year-old violist whose heart is both in Korea and in Israel. She was born in Korea and adopted by an Israeli couple when she was six months old. Their professionalism despite the difference in age was a true amazement to many in the audience.
The concert also celebrated the opening of direct flights between Incheon and Tel Aviv, the second largest city in Israel.
Starting from Sept. 25, Korea Air will operate flights to Tel Aviv three times a week.
Last year alone, 34,000 Korean tourists visited Israel. The ambassador said, ``I hope that all of you will use this opportunity to visit my country to witness the Israel miracle for yourself. You will also enjoy our warm hospitality, beautiful beaches, great food and many fascinating sites.''
