Paris vendor Paco steals spotlight in premiere
MBC's "Welcome, First Time in Korea?," a long-running reality travel show, has returned after a thoughtful makeover, kicking off its fourth season this evening.
The show has been a trailblazer for foreigner-led travel shows and one of network's flagship programs, charming viewers with real stories from international guests exploring Korea. It has delivered fun and cultural connection over more than 400 episodes, all with solid 3 percent average ratings.
Breaking free from traditional trips, the new season opens its doors to anyone worldwide with an interest in Korea, allowing visitors to explore and share their journeys. The production team has handpicked unexpected figures to uncover Korea's hidden charms and reaffirm the show's enduring power.
"We dropped 'invited' because fans — big names even — emailed us wanting in. After some 300 Zoom calls over six months, we selected those genuinely eager to travel Korea. The show will also introduce unique national traits, inviting hosts from each country to the studio," the show's producer Jeon Min-kyung said during an online press conference, Thursday.

Kicking off the fourth season is Paco, a charismatic vendor from Paris who sells Eiffel Tower keychains. His fluent Korean, warm sense of hospitality and coaching for how to pose for social media went viral among Korean tourists, turning him into a must-visit icon.
Chris Appelhans, one of the directors of the Oscar winning "KPop Demon Hunters," has also been announced as a guest.
In the season premiere, Paco arrives at N Seoul Tower on Mount Nam, where the city lights move him to tears. "Seoul's glow reminds me of the Eiffel Tower. The love from Koreans calling my name made this dream come true," he shares, amplifying the heartfelt vibes.
Jeon stresses the key word for this season is "authenticity."
"While many have recently expressed love for Korea, Paco's love spans over 10 years. Meeting him, his passion was palpable — we cast him instantly to symbolize our fresh start," she explained.
Hosts DinDin and Kim Jun-hyun have raved about Paco. "He's the perfect fit and made me think, 'Can someone love our country this much?' I want to meet him," said DinDin, while Kim added, "He feels like my little brother. I'm proud and grateful."
Asked about ideal guests, Kim said they wanted celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsay, while DinDin picked Jack Champion from "Avatar." Jeon picked Cardi B, whose Instagram Live of her eating Korean spicy tuna with rice, mayo, chili sauce and dried seaweed went viral, launching the #GochuTunaChallenge worldwide.
"After six years of feel-good Korea hype, tune in for real stories and sparks of originality," the producer said, heightening expectations.
Viewers can watch Paco and his French friends' find adventure on Mount Nam tonight at 8:30 p.m. on MBC every1, with global access on the official MBC every1 YouTube channel (@hello1stkorea).
