Mental health is a hot topic on Korean TV shows and a new drama series seems to confirm this trend.
The upcoming period drama, “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong” (working title), tells the story of a physician during the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910) who gets expelled from the royal court after getting caught up in a conspiracy.
He then meets with Seo Eun-woo (Kim Hyang-gi), who has a good understanding of patients' minds, and Gye Ji-han (Kim Sang-kyung), who practices traditional medicine in the strange village of Gyesu, and becomes a genuine doctor who supports people's mental health concerns.
Kim Hyang-gi described the upcoming series as “humane,” adding that it depicts the stories of people with wounded hearts. “This emotional human drama has both funny and touching moments. This project together has been so harmonious, and I can't wait to see it when it comes to the small screen in August,” she said in a statement.
TvN's “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se-poong,” which consists of 12 episodes, is set to premiere on Aug. 1 at 10:30 p.m.
Kim Min-jae debuted through Mnet's drama, “Persevere, Goo Hae-ra,” in 2015, and since then has appeared in JTBC's “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency” (2019) and SBS' “Do You Like Brahms?” (2020).
Debuting at the age of three, Kim Hyang-gi has appeared in many hit films, including the “Along with the Gods” series (2017-2018), “Youngju” (2018) and “Innocent Witness” (2019). She is set to appear in “Hansan: Rising Dragon,” which will hit theaters on July 27.
