Ong Seong-wu to star in 'Strong Girl Bong-soon' spinoff series

Singer and actor Ong Seong-wu, who is known as a former member of the disbanded K-pop boy band Wanna One, will be starring in the upcoming romantic comedy series “Strong Girl Nam-soon,” a spinoff series of the 2017 fantasy rom-com “Strong Girl Bong-soon.”

The actor's agency, Fantagio, announced that Ong has been confirmed as the lead in the new series, co-starring with Lee You-mi, the star of the smash hit dramas “Squid Game” and “All of Us Are Dead.”
The new series revolves around three women of different generations in a family: Kang Nam-soon (Lee), her mother Hwang Geum-joo (Kim Jung-eun) and her grandmother Gil Joong-gan (Kim Hae-sook), with Bong-soon being Nam-soon's second cousin.
Nam-soon, who has a superpower that has been passed down the maternal line in her family, grew up as an orphan after going missing in Mongolia. After growing up, she comes back to Korea to find her parents.
Reuniting with her mother and grandmother, Nam-soon teams up with her family to hunt down illegal drug-related activities that have been occurring in southern Seoul's Gangnam District.
Ong will play Kang Hee-sik, a detective who is part of the undercover narcotics team. He joins hands with Nam-soon to combat a drug ring in the district.
The series, scheduled to air in the first half of next year, will be directed by Kim Jung-sik, who is known for leading the 2021 comedy series “Work Later, Drink Now,” and is written by Baek Mi-kyeong, who wrote “Strong Girl Bong-soon” and the 2021 drama series “Mine.”
