Former Stray Kids member and actor Kim Woo-jin will star in an HBO Max original series, according to his agency, 10x Entertainment, Monday.
He is the first Korean artist to appear in original content produced by the global streaming platform.
According to the agency, Kim will play the lead in the series titled, “Alem do Guarda-Roupa” (Beyond the Wardrobe).
It is a romantic fantasy revolving around a teenage girl in Sao Paulo, Brazil, who finds a magical portal in a wardrobe that is linked to the house of the members of the famous K-pop boy group, ACT, in Seoul. Kim will play a member of the group, and Korean-Brazilian actress Sharon Blanche will be the teenage girl.
“He (Kim) has had high popularity overseas since his debut, which helped him be cast in the global project,” the agency said in a release.
Kim is now in Brazil to film the series and will return home around June, the company said. The series is scheduled for release next year. HBO Max is planning to launch its service in Korea in the latter half of this year.
Kim, who used to go by the name Woojin, left Stray Kids in October 2019 and has been a soloist after dropping the single, “Still Dream,” in July of last year.
