“A Love So Beautiful,” a Korean rendition of the Chinese drama of the same name, is coming soon.
Streaming service Kakao TV unveiled Monday the 24-part series' teaser posters featuring the two lead actors Kim Yo-han and So Ju-yeon. Kim is a member of K-pop boy band WEi.
“Each episode of 'A Love So Beautiful' is 20 minutes long,” the company said in a statement. “It is a digital drama optimized to watch on mobile.”
The coming-of-age drama follows a bubbly high school student Shin Sol-yi (So), who has a crush on her cold-hearted friend Cha Heon (Kim).
It is the remake of the Chinese series aired in 2017 on Tencent TV ― a video platform run by the country's largest internet and tech firm Tencent. It is also streaming on Netflix.
Starring Hu Yitian and Shen Yue, the Chinese drama garnered immense popularity there thanks to its nostalgia-evoking story and the chemistry between the actors.
It is based on a novel by popular writer Zhao Qianqian, who was under fire here for allegedly revealing her anti-Korean sentiment by using words like “bangzi” ― a derogatory Chinese term referring to Koreans ― on her social media account. The writer apologized in May, saying she did not clearly know about the meaning in the past.
“After learning what 'bangzi' truly means, I have not used it,” she said.
The first episode of “A Love So Beautiful” will be aired on Kakao TV on Dec. 28.
