The second season of tvN's crime thriller series “Stranger” wrapped up with its highest viewership rating Sunday ― and its third season may be on the way.

The network reportedly said it would “keep the possibilities open,” raising expectations about the new season among fans.

The season two finale scored a nationwide 9.4 percent rating, up 2 percent from its first episode. The rating in the greater Seoul area reached 11 percent.

“Stranger 2,” starring lead actors Cho Seung-woo and Bae Doo-na, touched on the power struggle between police and the prosecution, especially in the area of investigation.

Prosecutor Si-muk (Cho) and a passionate police investigator Yeo-jin (Bae), the stars of the previous season, teamed again to find the truth of their power game and corruption.

The scandal highlighted throughout the season was resolved in the last episode, but the plot hinted there may be more stories.

The series, which started in 2017, garnered huge popularity with the actors' compelling performances and thrilling storyline. The story was well-received by critics as it reflected reality.
