Famous Hollywood glamour couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt -- “Brangelina” -- have split up.
Citing “irreconcilable differences,” Jolie filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday. She is seeking custody of their six children -- three that are adopted -- but asked the court to grant Pitt visitation rights.
The divorce papers listed their separation date as Sept. 15, according to Reuters.
The couple met on the set of the film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in 2004. They started dating after Pitt divorced actress Jennifer Aniston in 2005, but only married in Aug. 2014.
Reaction to their breakup ranged from shock to sadness. The couple have been partners not only in their careers but also in humanitarian activism.
They recently worked together on 2015 film “By the Sea” -- a relationship drama written, directed and produced by Jolie.
"I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," Pitt said.
"I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
