K-pop girl band Sonamoo of TS Entertainment has released its third mini-album, “I Like U Too Much,” and band members say they want to become the next Girls’ Generation.

“Girls’ Generation has been showing various concepts as a girl group and members can act and also are popular on TV reality shows,” said band leader Su Min, during a press showcase at Yes24 MUV HALL in Mapo-gu, western Seoul, Wednesday. “We all have different charms as a seven-member group and hope to be active in various fields.

“However, in the future, we want to be a girl band that other teams want to become like.”

Sonamoo has adopted a new concept as Barbie dolls this time, casting off its previous image as a girl-crush band.

The new album has six tracks. Three producers, including Wonderkid, wrote and arranged the main song, “I Like U Too Much.” Group members D.ana and NEW SUN also participated in writing lyrics for the title track. The tracks link to the story of a girl finding love with a person who was her friend.

“People say that when a woman changes, it is not her fault,” said Su Min. “We wanted to give some change to our concept. We pursued a dark and strong image before and we wanted to prove we can also appeal as a bright team.”

Min Jae said: “I liked hip-hop when I debuted but I also wanted to try girlish songs. Of course we have strong songs like ‘Déjà vu’ in our feature songs, but it is the first time we have selected a fresh and lively song as the main song. I am happy we get to show our feminine side.”

Sonamoo members said they monitored other girl groups’ performances on television and practiced singing and dancing during a one-year hiatus. The team did not want to rush but rather prepare well to return with songs that pleased their fans.

The youngest member, NEW SUN, revealed she is on a diet of one meal a day and had lost nearly 10 kilograms.

“I hate working out and I rather choose to fast,” she said. “I don’t eat anything after I eat breakfast. Also, my hair was severely damaged after bleaching and dyeing it. So I just cut it all.”

To promote the album, Sonamoo wants to perform on as many stages as it can, nationwide and even abroad. Members also hope to appear in television drama series and entertainment shows and on radio.
