Master Chef Korea's season 4 judge Song Hoon opened his own American-style grill restaurant, S Tavern, May 23, next to Dosan Park in Gangnam, southern Seoul.

The new restaurant focuses on Song’s concept of a tavern, where people can eat comfortably and the menu features numerous grilled dishes which are specialties of the restaurant. The dishes are inspired by southern American soul food.

Song had been the head chef of restaurant group SG Dinehill for the past two years before starting his own business.

"I had always wanted to open my own restaurant in the concept of casual American dining as I had lived in the United States for 10 years before I moved back to Seoul," said Song. "I was confident with American-style grilled dishes, so I decided to go with that concept."

The first floor of the restaurant is more casual, with bar seating also available for solo diners. The second floor is classier and quieter for business meetings or private family gatherings. A room is also available for up to eight people.

Song graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and worked at Michelin-starred restaurants including the three-star Eleven Madison Park in New York and the one-star Gramercy Tavern.
