A legal advocate of the father of singer Kang Min-kyung from girl band Davichi denied Tuesday claims that the senior Kang was involved in misappropriating funds from a religious foundation in a failed land deal.
Law firm Dookyung said law firm Keumseong, which represents the religious foundation, has “committed to a media play,” using the public fame of the star.
Dookyung said the legal dispute, which began last November when the foundation sued the senior Kang, is “a matter of senior Kang, not his celebrity daughter.”
Dookyung said it is preparing to sue Keumseong for defamation of the Kangs and allegedly spreading false information.
Keumseong said Monday that the senior Kang, sometime before 2009, introduced a seller to the foundation, which was looking for land for a business.
When the deal fell through because of the seller’s reasons, Kang Sr. allegedly persuaded the foundation to give him 400 million won to take care of the taxes. The money was handed over, but Kang Sr. reportedly used it for his business. The foundation later discovered that no tax is levied on non-profit organizations and demanded that Kang Sr. return the money, but he refused.
Dookyung denied Keumseong’s argument about Kang senior’s involvement in the land deal.
It argued that the deal involved the foundation and Kang’s personal acquaintance, who was the seller.
